I hear it all the time, “I didn’t download anything, how did I get infected….”. Let’s look at this scenario, in Fort Knox there are millions of dollars, and you know that it’s protected extremely well and you can’t just walk in and say, ” hey guys , I’m here to rob you!”. Know why? because THEY WOULD LOCK YOU UP. So, how do you rob Fort Knox?… (lets be real as this is just hypothetical, we aren’t planning on robbing Fort Knox). You sneak in, pretending to be a workman, or by some other method, but you have to get in without them knowing. Same principal applies to viruses, Trojans, worms, they don’t tell you they are downloading bad things, they pretend to be good guys so you will let your guard down and now the back door is open to let all their buddies in.
Some simple tips are go to your control panel, to your programs and simply scroll down the list, you’ll see names of Proggies (as noted in past blogs this is a program), and the dates they were installed. You will notice that the publishers name and information is visible as well. Sometimes you can tell a suspicious proggie by the way all the other ones look and you can usually see the ones that stick out. If you find a proggie that doesn’t look right, Google it, do a quick research on it, to see if it is something you installed or if it snuck in. Remember, YOU are Fort Knox, DONT LET ANYONE IN!
