Ahh, 2015… New Year, new technology to get excited about and new threats to your computer that will need to be addressed. Last year we saw the increase of “ransom ware”, which covers your screen with a very scary message about the F.B.I. being after you or something along those lines, and the only way to fix the problem was to pay someone. To the untrained eye, it looks very real, and some of them can even encrypt your computer files! The “wild” internet poses many threats and there’s no real way to be 100 percent safe… OR is there?
You and your antivirus have to be a team. No matter how good your antivirus is, it can’t do it alone… So, that being said, here’s a “GOLDEN RULE” that I use and it is so easy ANYONE can do it….”READING IS FUNDAMENTAL”. When your computer throws up a pop up box on your screen it is communicating with you the best way it can. Instead of just clicking, “next”, or “close”, take the time to READ the message that is obstructing your view. It may be your antivirus warning you of an imposing threat, or unsafe site it could even be letting you know of a hack attempt. The message is designed to ask the user, you, what you want to do; it’s the computer’s attempt to seek guidance from YOU. It’s a common misconception that people have, which is, that computers are smart. While true to some degree, computers are actually only as smart as the user abilities.
Just some food for thought…
